Krabi is famous for emerald seas, dramatic limestone cliffs and tropical islands, but travel beyond the beaches and another side of the province begins to emerge: locally made craft spirits, fruit wines and coffee products shaped by Krabi's agricultural communities.
This alternative food-and-drink journey connects three areas—Nong Thale, Ao Luek and Plai Phraya—and offers travelers a different way to understand Krabi through local ingredients and craftsmanship.

1. Nong Thale — Kilo Spirits
Based in Nong Thale, Kilo Spirits Distillery produces small-batch spirits in Krabi under its “Precisely Crafted” philosophy, combining traditional approaches with modern production techniques.
Its range includes gin, vodka and rum. According to Kilo Spirits, its VDK is fermented from sugarcane juice before being double-distilled and filtered, while Kilo GN is a dry aromatic spirit craft-distilled in Krabi.

For travelers interested in the craft behind a drink rather than simply the finished bottle, Kilo provides an interesting look at how Thai ingredients—particularly sugarcane—can become contemporary premium spirits.

2. Ao Luek — Locally Made Fruit Wine
Ao Luek introduces another side of Krabi's local beverage culture: community-made fruit wine.
Thai trade-promotion documentation lists an Ao Luek producer specializing in local fruit wine, with OTOP certification, an offline shop in Ao Luek and the Facebook channel “ไวน์ผลไม้ไทย By Wine Ao luek.”

Mulberry wine is among the products associated with this local route. Rather than approaching it simply as a drink, travelers can see it as part of a broader story of adding value to agricultural ingredients through fermentation and community enterprise.
3. Plai Phraya — Bat Guano Coffee and Coffee Wine
In Khiri Wong, Plai Phraya District, กลุ่มวิสาหกิจชุมชนกาแฟมูลค้างคาว offers perhaps the most unusual story on the route.
Krabi's Provincial Commerce Office confirms that the enterprise works with local Robusta coffee and has developed several value-added products, including drip coffee, roasted beans and coffee wine.
The coffee's origin story is closely connected with Wareerin Cave. According to Thailand's online farmers' market, coffee seeds discovered in bat droppings were propagated locally, while bat guano later became part of the cultivation story. The group's coffee carries GAP certification and is associated with the Krabi Coffee geographical indication (GI).

A Different Way to Taste Krabi
Together, Nong Thale, Ao Luek and Plai Phraya reveal a side of Krabi that many visitors never encounter.
Here, sugarcane, fruit and locally grown coffee are not simply agricultural products. They become part of stories about craftsmanship, community enterprise and the changing ways local producers create value from the ingredients around them.
Before visiting, contact each producer to confirm opening hours, tours and tasting arrangements, particularly for smaller community enterprises.
And if your journey includes alcohol tasting, arrange transportation in advance.
